Ahh, haven't been here in a few days - that original splash page has since been updated now that it's been properly announced.

The title didn't mean anything at all... wouldn't read into it. Just put whatever first came to mind, which evidently was that sentence.

Haha, them's the rules. I can't just go and disobey them.

I was planning on launching December/January, but maybe I should put it off until say June...

Richard, Are you going to be using your own tips?

---
1. Buy domain name.
2. Design cool splash page promising the world.
3. You’re 99% of the way there so take a few months off to celebrate.

Haha, For a second there I thought DreamNova changed their name :)

I never really had a problem, in fact I thought it was a good catch, not many coaster sites can say they have the most obvious name...there is no www.roller-coaster.com for instance.

Haha, I just realised, you made a splash page, this means the site must now be delayed for months to keep things interesting :P

Love the name!

One thing I found wrong with R-C (the domain) was that it gave the idea that the site only covers roller-coasters and not so much the parks and non-roller coaster attractions. This new domain should help fix that problem.

Nah not touchy... just I fully see how people may react to it. Just a hurdle we'll have to jump over.

www.parkz.com.au will indeed be the main URL so don't fear, we're not losing our Australianness just yet.

Haha sorry, I wasn't aware the Z was touchy.

It's not so much the rc name, but the .com.au on the end which made it "our" site. Might miss it a bit. But yeah i think having an au domain is important (and really, it depends on how much you want to fork out buying names) Parkz.com.au?

Too bad WVTP have themeparks.com.au.

And yes, r-c.com.au would have had problems, we would have been innundated by radio controlled plane enthusiasts.

Just on that, how much of a tangible problem does the similarity to the ABC site cause?

The time has come... "Roller-Coaster.com.au" is too long, too generic and too confusing (e.g. the ABC Kids website). The alternatives like buying www.r-c.com.au to me only add more confusion and solve only one of the handful of different issues I see associated with a name like that.

www.parkz.org probably won't be the main URL by the way, but will likely act as an international access point down the track.

The "z" has been something I've ruminated over for more than a year now. It wasn't an easy decision as I'm all too aware of the connotations/image it has, but at the same time it was absolutely critical (for behind-the-scenes/business reasons) that we went with a name that was unique and I also wanted something short. I'm also 100% convinced that we'll very easily shake any issues with the "z" through simply providing a damn good site.
